Manco stepped back before he realized that the thrust was a feint. He quickly spun the staff downward to deflect the strike to his feet. Maybe using the staff as a sword wasn't such a good idea. It felt unwieldy. Unfortunately, it would have to do until he could obtain a bokuto. He'd have to ask Miko where she got hers.
Manco raised the staff above his head as Clover dived forward to attack, sidestepped, then cleaved downward, aiming for her head. Well, ideally. Instead, the staff scraped against the ceiling of the dorm room at full extension and went falling backwards out of his hands. Most definitely very unwieldy when used as a store. Manco held his hands up with a disappointed look an his face. "I'm sorry, I just can't fight at my fullest with a weapon I'm not used. A staff makes a much longer sword than I prefer and I know the basic physics of using one, but not how to actually use one." Manco said. Unfortunately, he had to concede defeat before the fight had really begun. It was beyond disappointing. He didn't really want to use his actual sword, that would just be dangerous and cause more damage than needed. Normally, he wouldn't care, but he didn't feel like repeating another year.
"Maybe we should wait until I get a wooden sword. Sorry for disappointing you like this." Manco said to Clover. He felt there wasn't much more that he could do.

Clover watched him as he spun the staff downward to block her. It was entertaining in the least. Though she kinda felt bad she hadn't told him the special effects of Pia Lamnia metals. Before he could block her next attack he had disarmed himself. Stepping back as he raised his hands she leaned her staff against the couch. "You have nothing to be sorry about. In fact I should be the one who should be sorry. I thought you would question why it feels so heavy when I have been wielding them like their feathers."
Holding out her hand a 6 inch by 3 inch diameter pole appeared from her skin. Hitting a button it extended to its full 5'6'' length. "Take this in one hand and that staff in the other. They should weigh exactly the same. Tell me which one is heavier." Watching him she waited for him to tell her that the newer staff he had been weilding was heavier. "Pia Lamnia metal Syncs up with the owner and feels as light as a feather. To all others it feels heavier and unbalanced. I use it so people wont be tempted to take off with my weapons or in a fight try to wield them against me. Its a rather handy metal and incredibly dense making it hard to cut." Clover looked at him hoping he wouldn't be too mad over her little prank.[/blockquote]

"Hm? It wasn't the weight that was bothering me, it was the length. I actually thought it felt pretty light." Manco replied to Clover, though he picked up the staff he had been using then tested it against the weight of the collapsible pole Clover and handed to him. The way she produced the weapon seemed to confirm Manco's hypothesis that Clover was, in fact, a genderless shapeshifter (Not that he'd let her know he'd figured it out and ruin her fun). The two staves felt about the same to him in terms of weight. "They feel about the same, actually." Manco said.
It then dawned on him what Clover was saying. "Maybe the Pia Lamnia accidentally synced with me. You've used this staff before, right?" Manco asked. He wasn't too peeved over the prank. It wasn't Clover's prank that had stopped the fight, it was his own lack of skill and preparation with the staff. "I really don't know what you're talking about with it feeling heavy. I actually didn't like the feel of the staff because it felt like it was light and flimsy and wouldn't do much damage. I only dropped it because it makes for a longer sword than I'm used too." Manco said. To demonstrate, he set down the collapsible staff and imitated some of the movements that Clover had made with her staff. They were clunkier and not as practiced, but certainly about as agile. "I wish it hadn't synced with me, if that's what happened. I actually like working with heavier weapons." Manco said. That was another reason to replace his revolvers. They weren't chambered for a very heavy caliber, so when he shot darkness out of them, the recoil was negligible. They were also fairly light guns.

Clover listened to him and watched him test the staff against her practice one. Running a hand through her hair she blinked as her mind registered an answer she didn't want. Slowly she circled around him as she spoke up about what she had been thinking. Stopping in front of him as he demonstrated the moves she had done. They were unpracticed and definitely needed work.
Sighing she stared at the staff. "I do think it synced to you. Which means it was probably never meant to be mine. It took me a month before it finally synced up to what I wanted from it. To fix the weight now that you have it synced to you just think of a weight you would like it to be and give it a swing. I hereby give you that staff to work with." Moving to her weapons rack she pulled off her Glaive one of her older weapons and held it out to him.
"This is how it should have felt the moment you picked it up. Heavy and highly unbalanced." Her Glaive was one of her first weapons since she moved to the academy. Even if he was a strong fighter it would take months for him to sync with her glaive if he dared to try.

Manco noticed the troubled look on Clover's face and frowned a little. Well, she definitely didn't like the news and Manco certainly didn't want to feel like he was stealing one of her weapons from her. He could certainly understand a fighter having a bond with her weapons.
So it had synced. Clover seemed to accept this fact, but she seemed to be rather disappointed about it. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to take your staff." Manco replied before trying just what Clover had said about adjusting the staff's weight. It worked. The weapon felt much better now. Manco spun it a few times as Clover went to get her glaive, ending by stopping the blade at a level and with force that could easily break someone's wrist on impact. he would have to get a feel for a staff on his own.
Presented with the Glaive, Manco set down the staff and felt the glaive. Yes. Horribly balanced, horribly, horribly balanced. The weight distribution was all wrong and it somehow felt both too heavy and too light. ". . . that fight would have been over much more quickly if the Pia Lamnia hadn't synced." Manco commented. He gave the Glaive back to Clover and kept examining the staff. "It's a very nice staff, well made, I'm sure I'll be able to use it just fine with a little practice. Thank you." Manco said. "I'd give a spare sword, if If I had one."

Clover watched him as he said sorry about syncing with her staff. "Don't worry. It happens sometimes. Some weapons are just not meant for their owners. Besides you can pay me back by learning how to use it so that I can ambush you at a later date!" Clover seemed very excited over the prospect of fighting him again especially since he hadn't seen all her tricks. Standing with her Glaive she watched as he seemed to have adjusted the weight of the staff. Watching him spin it she smiled. The staff looked good in his hands. She was still sad that it had chosen him over her but she quickly pushed it to the back of her mind.
When he set his new staff down and picked up her Glaive she grinned. He looked as if he didn't know what to do with it. "Yes. Thats why I was apologizing. Though apparently my apology was not needed." Taking her glaive back she replaced it on the weapons rack and turned back to Manco. "I am counting on you practicing with it. Also don't worry about giving me anything in exchange." Suddenly a thought occurred to her about the boy with the sniper rifle on campus. "Actually! Do you know the kid with the sniper rifle on campus?! What was his name......Um......Za....no Alex....Yes Alex is his name! Do you know him?" It was almost painfully obvious what Clover was hoping for. She had seen his rifle and wanted to test it out.
