Name: Nekrous
Age: Really REALLY OLD, exact age unknown
Gender: Male
Species: Incarnation. Nekrous is effectively the personification entropy or entropy given form.
Home Nation: Kingdom of the Dead, Realm of the Ancients
Class: Genius is in fact understating Nekrous’ abilities rather drastically, while technically limited in what he can do Nekrous has existed for thousands if not tens of thousands of years and has spent that time researching everything about existence. While absolute control over his abilities eludes him the precision with which he can use his abilities is staggering and allows for seemingly impossible feats, including teaching several classes simultaneously in the same classroom with no one being the wiser.
Appearance: Tall and slender with long pitch black hair and white pupil-less eyes. Distinguishing features aren’t really relevant considering his appearance is constantly shrouded by his ‘Mantle of Entropy’. His clothing, a standard mage robe, is black inscribed with various runes put in place so they don’t instantly dissolve.
Personality: Usually Nekrous is almost apathy personified, however the situation he has been put in that has lead him to the academy has put him in a rather foul mood. He is generally teetering between annoyed and ‘end existence in horrendous ways’. Again though, the situation he is in prevents him from going on a genocidal rampage, generally he’s just bad-tempered.
Years of Teaching: Nekrous was a teacher of sorts in his home realm as well, using his abilities he managed to teach classes at higher learning institutions on no less than 70 planets simultaneously on a regular basis. Suffice to say he’s been teaching for a while.
Fields of Teaching: Nekrous is qualified to teach anything baring practical magic. He’s been studying for millennia, what do you expect?
Weapons: Nekrous has on several occasions has made various bladed weapons appear out of mid-air, he has declined to answer where he gets them.
Equipment: None, doesn’t need any and likely wouldn’t survive his presence anyway.
Mounts: N/A
Familiars: N/A
Elemental Affinity: Entropy?
Skills: Too numerous to list, he holds doctoral level and above degrees in more subjects then exist in the realm the Academy inhibits. Nekrous however is completely unable to perform magic, and due to his ability struggles with anything that actually requires him to interact with physical objects. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t know every facet of how almost every conceivable skill is performed, he’s had a lot of time on his hands.
Scope of Abilities: Nekrous’ ability functions like an accelerated end to existence. As stated Nekrous is the embodiment of heat death, the end result of entropy. In effect this makes him the lowest energy state possible when inflicting entropy on his targets. Nekrous’ ability manifests in three primary ways. First is his will, while not as fast working as the others it is one of the most versatile and insidious. Nekrous can inflict entropy on anything he has awareness of, while generally slower than his other abilities it can be nearly imperceptible and only using his will can Nekrous perform some of his most precise techniques. The second his abilities manifest is through his Mantle, a constant haze that appears around him like heat from a desert. The Mantle of Entropy is incredibly potent as such Nekrous only has so much control over what it does. For the most part it destroys and degrades indiscriminately, only through extensive research and training has Nekrous been able to allow light and sound through the Mantle, prior to that he lived in a state of near constant sensory deprivation. The Mantle doesn’t generally move very fast without specific effort exerted by Nekrous, it is however horrifically powerful. The final form is through physical contact, this form is the least controllable and most destructive. Physical contact with Nekrous disperses all matter instantaneously severing all atomic bonds spontaneously. Nekrous' touch is the single most destructive thing in the realm and would likely destroy the planet if not the entirety of the solar system the Academy's world inhabited.
History: Nekrous, in his home world is known as the Vanguard to Death. He is effectively Death’s number two. Because of the nature of existence and the rule set down by the Creator, Nekrous cannot affect the concept of Death in any way. Due to this limitation he gained an ally in his realm’s reaper. Working with him he was able to get a handle on his abilities as well as a companion who would not be destroyed by his very presence. Overall it’s been an immensely beneficial relationship for both parties
Role Play Sample:
Nekrous gazed upon the assembled students with a mixture of annoyance and resignation.
“Welcome to Honors-level Science, I will be your instructor, Nekrous. You may refer to as Doctor, Professor, or by name I don’t really care.”
A small packet of papers as well as a rather small textbook appeared before the students.
“I have provided both my own textbook and the syllabus for this class. Please refrain from asking any questions until you have read through the syllabus in detail. We will be covering a wide breadth of topics in this class starting with physics and working up in general complexity. This will be challenging class and I could be considered and relentless taskmaster in my teaching style. Unless you are involved in a serious life or death battle that has left you completely incapacitated I will expect assignments to be turned in on time, the same applies to missed exams.”
Seemingly gliding across the classroom Nekrous continued.
“It should be noted that the textbook provided is several millennia more advanced than this world’s current level of advancement, congratulations after this course you will be the most scientifically advanced people on the planet barring myself.”
A slight chuckle could be heard from the students at that.
“And finally before I dismiss you early, as is traditional on the first class, a word on my office hours.”
An academy guard rushes in looking absolutely terrified.
“Professor! There’s been an incident in the library a student was possessed by one of the Restricted texts. I’m terribly sorry for the disturbance but you were the first professor I could find. None of the magic we attempted could scratch it.”
Despite the ever-present haze that hid his face everyone in the room could sense the slight twitch that suddenly appeared in Nekrous’ right eye. A slight gesture was made and instantly everyone was standing in the library before the eldritch horror the idiotic student had become.
Said eldritch horror stood about three stories with tentacle like appendages and countless eyes. Many of the students upon seeing the abomination either fainted or began gibbering in terror.
Nekrous spoke calmly, “There is a reason I labeled these texts as restricted you fool. That book contains the teachings of one of the priests of the Great Old Ones, attempting to read such a text without proper preparation results in what could be considered rather unfortunate transformations.”
The best moved to attack, identifying Nekrous as the main threat it struck with countless tentacles. None reached their mark as they were instantly dissolved several feet from their target by an aura that had grown substantially since entrance into the library.
“I do not tolerate disruptions in the library or any activity that could damage its contents, learn this will boy.”
And with that Nekrous made what appeared to be a shooing gesture with his left hand as he turned to leave the library and the beast shrieked in agony before dissolving entirely leaving only the body of the foolish student, the book that was held tightly in his grasp instantly replacing itself back on the shelves.
Nekrous spoke up while the students and guards were recovering, “I’ll cover office hours in our next class, note that I do not accept mental breakdowns as adequate reason for missing class.”
