Name: Kye Cheshire
Nicknames or Aliases: Miss. Cheshire, Devil-cat-lady, Flat Cat (not suggested)
Age: 29
Gender:Female
Species: Grimalkin, feline-like humanoid race that are known to achieve high feats in magic due to their potential to possess high levels of Mana (life force energy convertible into usable energy for magic). While for the most part, their bodies appear similar to that of a typical humanoid's, some common features these beings bear in common are cat-like ears atop their head instead of humanoid ones on the sides of their head, eyes with slit pupils, sharp retractable nails, and their more curious physical feature, cable-shaped cat-tails which fork in two in mid-length, making the tail resemble a "Y" shape.
This species is also known to have the natural prowess abilities of a cat's, seeing in the dark as they can see at only one-sixth the light level required for a typical humanoid vision. They also have superior hearing that can detect a vast range of sound frequencies from 55 hertz to 79 kilohertz. (Humans can only hear from 31 hertz to 18 kilohertz. In short, Grimalkins have REALLY good hearing.) Finally, they have an acute sense of smell twice as sensitive than humans.
Alignments:
Chaotic Neutral "Screw the rules, I have magic."
Home Nation:Azure system, known for their planets to bear at least one blue moon, that is known to emit its own light 24-7. Mages and Alchemists alike (or species that have high rates of Mana like Grimalkins) are known to practice their arts and research there.
Years of Teaching: 5
Appearance:
Body
Eye Color: Gold
Hair Color and Style: Pink, worn long in length, reaching lower back.
Height:5'8"
Weight:42kg
Body Type: Female build, supple, slim arms and legs, "heart-shaped" face, flat-chested, fair skin.
Clothing
Head:Reading classes, hang from cat ears
Torso:Black button-up coat w/ white fur cuffs and collar, white midrift t-shirt.
Legs: Black pants rolled up to cover just over the knees, gray belt w/ black buckle.
Feet: White sandles.
Kye appears as an adult humanoid woman of 29 years of age, with cat ears and a forked tail the color of her hair, which is pink, straight, with long bangs that reach her shoulders and long enough that it reaches her lower back. Her eyes are gold in color with cat-like slits for pupils. She has a tall, supple, feminine build, (*cough* which happens to be a bit "lacking", but never use the word "flat" without standing away at least 30 feet from her *cough*)and has a fair complexion. Also, if you look closely at her face, you might notice that she has bags under her eyes from pulling off back to back all-nighters while studying in her arts and the contents of the Obsidian Grimiore. (She's rather self conscious about it, too. "The f*** are YOU look'in at!?")
She is often seen wearing a pair of reading glasses that sit on the bridge of her nose with black-beaded straps that hang over her cat ears. She is also usually seen wearing a black button-up coat that sports white, fluffy fur in the cuffs of the wrists and the collar, worn mostly open, the only two buttons secured are two in front of her upper torso. Under this, the wears a midrift, short-sleeved t-shirt, usually white in color. She's also usually seen wearing black jeans with the bottom hems rolled up to the knees secured around her waist by a gray colored belt with a black buckle. Finally, on her feet are usually a pair of white heeled sandals, however, she has a habit of slipping them off whenever she goes to sit down or is just flat-out lounging around, sometimes even in public.
Personality: Don't get the wrong impression. Kye's not a bad person, and she's an incredibly good teacher in the arts of elemental spellcasting, necromancy, and curses (sadly, "curses" meaning both in terms of magic and language), which is most likely one of the few reasons why she still has her job at the academy in the first place. However, those are most of the few good points about her, and they don't come anywhere near to balancing out the "not-so-good" points.
Kye typically has a serious, cynical air about her, and while she resents having to put up with the rules of the academy (particularly over not cursing her annoying students) she follows them so that she may be permitted to use her classroom as her personal laboratory. She's known to have a particularly bad temper when someone insults her and her physique. (Seriously, calling her "Flat Cat" is NOT suggested. The last guy...well, it's better you don't know. Let's just say the academy was very particular about not letting her do that again if she wanted to keep her job, but she'll find other things to do to you, make no mistake about that. She's not also called "Devil-Cat-Lady" for nothing. In fact, in contrast to "Flat Cat", she's rather flattered by that nickname.)
While she detests the annoying and/or book thieving troublemakers in her classroom, she actually takes quite a liking to the more smart-ass, bad mouthed kids she ends up with a bit more than her incredibly studious students in her class because she relates to them, and feels perfectly fine about talking trash with them, while some people are sometimes put-off by such behavior. A handy note, giving her a box of Pocky, known to be her favorite snack, is an easy way to get on her good side (or get back on it if she's miffed at you).
It may come as a surprise, but these quirks in her personality have made it difficult for her to get along with most people, and as such she usually tries to shut people out of her business and keep to herself, one of her only confident's being her assistant/personal slave, "Saya." And despite acting like an "Unprofessional Professional," she's very diligent in her after-class work, so much so that she would almost have to be dragged out of her laboratory to actually take a vacation or go out anywhere. (Promises of Pocky sometimes work, too...)
She can also be more than a bit reckless when it comes to using her Mana, something her Familiar almost constantly needs to remind her, since few put up with her enough to care anyway. When she is especially stressed or otherwise angry, she will practically spout out her Mana reserves like water at Splash Mountain, sometimes resulting in fatigue before she has even reached her limit just from the whiplash of back to back spellcasting.
While hard to reveal, she does, in fact, have a legitimately nice side to her. She absolutely won't stand for owing a debt to someone who helps her and thus immediatly tries to pay them back somehow and is all for justice for those who are treated unfairly, but she would rather encourage young people to try and help themselves before resorting to her own help. Some popular phrases she gives to people are along the lines of, "you have a decently strong pair of legs, don't you? Why don't you get off your sorry ass and use 'em?!" She doesn't mind too much taking care of those in need however, she just tries to hide it under a vulgar approach. (Tsundere-alert)
This being said, she's always strove to be independent, so she's not at all used to asking for help, so having an "assistant" like Saya is strange for her. She'll sometimes be short tempered and snap at her even if she does exactly what she asked of her, and at other times will refuse to let Saya do anything for her at all and lecture the familiar to think and act for itself. A part of this behavior stems from her past, and ironically, the reason why she reincarnated Saya in the first place.
Class: Specialist: While sometimes known as the "most unprofessional professional", whatever skills she lacks by the standards of your typical spellcaster, Kye makes up for by being extremely skilled in what she does, Curses, Necromancy, Familiar Command, Element Manipulating spells, so much so, that few can surpass her in her skillset.
Elemental Affinity: Mana (Life Energy) manipulation, used specifically for curses, necromancy, and elemental spellcasting, as well as supplying energy to a familiar, in her case, "Saya".
*Note: Mana is a life force energy present in every living being that certain species and individuals can utilize to perform feats of magic. It's supply is limited to that individuals stamina, and can be used so long as the individuals physical strength holds up, much like how someone can hold a weight over their head so long as their arms don't give out. However, like any gift in power, if you use too much Mana at any given time, it brings fatigue to the user. Mana can be replenished over time, however, it's recovery rate is somewhat dependent on the physical condition of the individual. If they're beat up all to hell for example, their recovery rate is going to be slower than a snail. If they stay healthy, eating tons of nutritious food and drinking green tea and taking in all sorts of valuable vitamins, however, the recovery of Mana will be swift.
Weapons:
White Hare
Appearance:A futuristic styled, steel plated handgun.
Properties:Capable of shooting elemental rounds of fire, electricity, ice, wind if Kye channels the appropriate Mana from her own reserves in her body into the weapon. Outside of that, the gun doesn't fire any form of conventional ammo.
Holstered inside of her coat, Kye hides a dozen small, Glock-esc handguns that DO fire conventional ammo, 5 bullets in each of them.
Equipment:
The Obsidian Grimoire, an ancient relic and personal "notebook" for all of Kye's "research", full of cryptic runes, dead languages, mythological and supernatural data, also containing pages of paper Kye has placed in between the books own pages concerning her own curses, spells, experiments, whathaveyou that are written in various ciphers at a time so that only Kye, (and those who she teaches the patterns to) can understand it.
The book itself comes from an ancient civilization of some sorts that traversed between several planets long ago, the Jabrawoxsi, a race of whose appearance is not yet known exactly, as any descriptions of them translated to this day have been riddled with nonsense. No one knows much of culture or how they all vanished from the face of existence, only that they were building a mysterious weapon known as the Vorpal.
This book is that primary source of knowledge Kye has for all the spells, curses, and magical feats that she knows, and is almost constantly studying and translating it for more mystic knowledge. It is the only momento she has of her father, whom discovered it in the ruins of a past civilization on a moon positioned near where a black hole is said to have once existed.
Mounts: N/A
Familiars:
"Saya" Black Schrodinger
Abilities:
- Elemental Spellcasting
- Ailment Curses
- Necromancy and Command
Extent of Abilities:
Elemental Spellcasting. It's just what it sounds like. It's the ability to take Mana from a source, usually your own or occasionally some other form of energy supply, and use it to do things such as, and in Kye's case, shooting bolts of electricity, bursts of flame, shards of ice, or gales of wind from your fingertips. The issue Kye has with this skill however is moderation. Most magicians and spell casters have control over how much power they use in spells like these, however, Kye can only either cast spells in large, powerful bursts that quickly exhaust her, or resort to less Mana demanding weaker spells via bullets from her weapon, White Hare. (Kye can only use one burst of stronger magic of a select type once every thread, and spell bullets are the form of the weaker level element spells fired from White Hare)
*Kye teaches a class over Magic spells, magic circle patterns (the "blueprints" of a spell), and ailment curses, as she is at least extremely knowledgeable on those subjects...she also handles detention, yippee...
Ailment Curses. While these dark variations of spells are not used as the main source of offensive power as opposed to shooting a fireball, these curses can inflict ailments upon foes to help break down their defenses or strength. Curses Kye is capable of inflicting include Poison, which slowly eats away at an enemies stamina, Stun, which slows or stifles movement, Mute, which instead of being able to literally remove someones ability to make sounds (as she would simply LOVE to be able to do sometimes), it temporarily disables an enemies ability to cast magic for about 2 minutes, (2 posts) less if the opposing caster is skilled in recovering from such ailments, or Null, which disables an enemies magic based barriers. Kye can only inflict one Curse on someone at a time.
Necromancy and Command. This is a more complicated art, and is not always an approved one (but Kye doesn't give a flying truck). It is the ability to bring a dead entity back from the realm of the dead to that of the living in order to command them as your servants to fulfill a task. Typically, there are only 3 requirements to this ability (other than the obvious capability to perform it in the first place). The first is easy. You need an object of the deceased that was very significant to their person, a keepsake for example, which holds important meaning to their life. This element is necessary because it is used to call to the dead soul. The second step is that the body of the soul or otherwise a soulless/dead vessel must be obtained to house it in the physical world.
*For example, Black Schrodinger/Saya's soul is housed in the corpse of another humanoid girl rather than her original body.
The third requirement is much, much more difficult.
Simply put, it is much like the law "Objects in motion stay in motion unless acted upon by an outside force." In most cases, when it comes to necromancy, "People who are dead, really, really like to stay dead, unless you drag their ass back to life," (a Kye quote) because a great deal of spirits find closure or peace in the afterlife that they find, or they just downright don't like the idea of taking orders from you and they literally have nothing to lose by pissing you off by ignoring you.
This is usually the part where Kye either must promise to help fulfill a dying wish or something of the like to convince them to return, and afterwards grant them peace once more out of respect, or transfer a large amount of Mana to force them to reanimate or possess an empty vessel in the world, something that is extremely dangerous, as that risks trading her own life for theirs even if they didn't want to come back in the first place, and if the necromancer succeeds and lives, the reanimated soul will typically endure some sort of defect.
With this said, it is recommended (a majority of people still don't like the idea either way, but if you're going to be disrespectful of the resting dead) that you fulfill the requests of the dead in exchange for their aid.
*Should you betray the dead's wishes after they help you, they usually become evil spirits that come to haunt or kill you. Incidents such as these usually require an exorcist or someone gifted with holy abilities to send them back to the dead, otherwise, they will not return to it unless they take your soul with them.
After both parties of an act of necromancy have fulfilled their contract with each other in the recommended scenario, the dead soul will return to it's eternal rest. Souls that were forcefully brought back to life, on the other hand, can not return to their peaceful afterlife until they are either dismissed back to it by their master, or until their master is otherwise deceased.
Black Schrodinger is an example of a soul that had no available conditions to give in order to be persuaded back into life, for she specifically gave her life to keep the black hole and White trapped in another dimension, and therefore, Kye played the risk of forcing her back into the land of the living and into this dimension. The defect that she endured in the process, however, was the loss of her memory. Her instincts with the sword remained intact however, as Kye used Black Schrodinger sword to contact her soul. As for everything else, Kye is in the process of trying to reteach Black Schrodinger, how to do. Kye renames the soul Saya in the meantime however, because it makes it simpler to hide the fact that she brought a legendary hero back from the dead and is effectively ruining its honor with vengeful plans.
There is, of course, the opposite scenario to spirit reincarnation through necromancy, where "People who are dead really, really DON'T want to be dead" and while they are far easier to contract, they are considered just as dangerous as spirits who want to be dead, if not more so. These are spirits who will jump out from the pearly gates or the fiery cauldron for the chance to come back to life and stay that way.
So why don't necromancers form contracts with these spirits all the time rather than try to nudge the stubborn souls back to life? It's simple, really. If you asked a complete stranger to do a really hard and tedious task for you for nothing in exchange or something extreme in general, and they instantly said "sure" and did it with a smile, would you really trust them? Souls such as this will do anything to stay in the living world, and in most cases this leads to those souls to become an evil spirit that will usually obtain the ability to put their master in their place in the world of the dead and sustain their own existence by devouring the souls of the living or otherwise possess their master, commanding the commander instead, and feed off from their soul in steady incrimates to sustain themselves.
In short, the "moral" of this ability, is not to remain in a long term contract with a reincarnated soul. You brought them back to life, so command them what you will them to and send them back to death. Otherwise, things will get real risky the longer they hang around. It's also common sense not to get too attached to the spirit, because they need to go back eventually, whether either of you like it or not. (Death is a sore loser sometimes.)
History:
Long ago, approximatly 20 years ago on a planet in the Azure System, Kye and her twin sister, Aylia, lived with their father as he researched and studied the contents of the Obsidian Grimiore. He was searching for a formula within the book to cure a disease Kye's twin sister, Aylia, developed which constantly drained away her life force and had to maintained by transferring his own into her on a regular basis. Kye would watch this routine everyday, wishing her father wouldn't have to care for Aylia alone this way, however, being at such a young age, she didn't have the Mana to go through with such a procedure. Meanwhile, the condition would claim a critical amount of Mana from Aylia's body, sometimes leaving her in a semiconscious state. She and Kye would talk and play some days, but on others, Kye could do little more but watch her sister stare into space for days, sometimes weeks on end as their father struggled to supply Mana to her and search desperately for a cure to the disease.
Helpless to do anything for her sister, Kye strove to help her father support the three of them, in place of her mother, whom died in Kye and Aylia's birth. She would run errands for those in the town they lived in and learn to cook to help feed her family, while her father studied the Grimiore just as diligently.
Their lives went on like this for several years, but despite the twin's fathers efforts, he was no closer to a cure, and Aylia's condition only seemed to worsen as time passed. When Kye was 15, their father, in desperation, learned the art of necromancy and attempted to reincarnate the writer of the Grimiore by using the book itself as a catalyst. The spirit the book contacted responded and willingly offered its help in curing Aylia. Rejoicing, the father made the mistake to contract this spirit.
Upon contracting the soul, however, the entity, calling itself Legion, possessed his body, and proceeded to set fire to the home and the research for the cure. Kye witnessed what happened as she just came home from an errand in town to check on him, and horrified, she managed evacuate her comatose sister from the house.
With Aylia in tow and her father gone missing, Kye reached a hospital where Aylia could be treated for her condition by technological means. However, even now, she has yet to wake from her state. The story would have ended here too, but one night when a despairing Kye went to visit her sister's room, she was met with a familiar, stolen face.
It was Legion, still possessing the body of her father, the Obsidian Grimiore in his hands as he stood at a's bedside.
"Let your rage burn and your wisdom grow, young one," it said, placing the book on the table as it turned to face her. "For you are no use to me and no savior for her without bearing either." And with that said, the possessed father vanished into thin air, with only the book as proof of its taunting visit. It was that day that Kye vowed to obtain the forgotten knowledge to cure her sisters condition, and revenge for what the demon had done to their family.

The bell rang indicating that the period was over, causing Miss. Cheshire's hand to suddenly jerk to the side and snap the piece of chalk she was using (for the sixth time today) to draw a diagram of the pyrokinetic spell circle on the board for her students to take notes on. Eye twitching behind her glasses, she stood completely still for a few moments before heaving the broken chalk across the room over the students fleeing her room.
"SUNUVABITCH FUQDAMCHET BEL OF FTAGHIN!!" she spat, glaring at the spot where the chalk had left a gruesome streak in the circles design when it cracked. Crossing her arms she spoke out to the students before they managed to escape hearing range of her rather loud voice. "Don't forget, all of you, that I want you all to have those notes filled out and practice spell circles drawn WITH INK by the time class starts tomorrow. Any work you turn in later than that gets jack-shit, capiche?"
Standing there rubbing her temples, her cat ears twitched at the sound of a student in particular trying to slip past her, and at once, her arm reached over and gripped that student in particular by the shoulder, causing him to jolt apprehensively. "Not so fast, Hector."
"Y-Yes, ma'am?" the boy asked with a shameless smile.
"Toss the smirk Hector." Miss. Cheshire replied with a stern frown. She held up a stick it note with "Devil )at Lady." The student, Hector, began to sweat, but persisted in his attempt to appear innocent. "You forgot this on my door. Want it back?" Cheshire asked, still frowning.
"I-I dunno what your talking about Miss. Che-"
"-Hector, Hector, Hector..." Miss. Cheshire interrupted, shaking her head. "You, sir, are the only idiot I know who, on a regular basis, writes his c's backwards."
Hector's smile began to quiver at the corners of his mouth. "W-Well, I'm sure I'm not the only one who-"
Cheshire flipped the note over to reveal an intricate doodle on the other side. "And your the only one I constantly catch drawing things other than spell circles when my back is supposedly turned."
Hector turned pale. "Oh...I...I'm sorry M-Miss Cheshire, it won't happen again I swear!"
The cat lady smirked as she flipped the note back around. She wouldn't hesitate to admit she enjoyed picking on nervous students like this from time to time. "Aw, don't get yer panties in a twist, Hector. Frankly, I like the improvement you tried to make. Adds a nice touch to the place. Go on, get out of here."
"H-huh? Really?" the bewildered student asked.
"What, are you a shitty liar AND deaf? Get outta here, SCRAM!"
With that outburst, the student quickly turned tail and escaped into the hallway. Miss Cheshire watched him scamper off as she approached her door to replace the note and pulled out a box of pocky from her coat. "...Good kid, that one." she muttered as she pulled out a pocky stick and proceeded to nibble on it.
"Excuse me, are you Kye Cheshire?" a new voice asked behind her. Kye turned around to see a man in a delivery man uniform. "Who's askin'?" she replied sharply, continuing to nibble on her pocky stick. The delivery man cleared his throat and gestured to the wheeled box beside him so large it almost looked as if it could hide a body inside...
"Well," Kye started, biting off a chunk of the pocky. "'Bout damn time."
~~~
Later that night, in the dim lighting of her personal laboratory (also doubling as her classroom) Kye finished drawing a large pattern filled with runic symbols and precise lines around a still, lifeless figure in the middle of it, a black sword beside it. "Alright...it's all set." she mumbled.
Standing up from the edge of the design, Kye walked over to her desk and picked up an ominous, black tome. The Obsidian Grimiore. "I'll make you pay for everything you've done with this...you demonic bastard..." she growled grimly to seemingly no one in the room.
~~~
Kye fell to her knees, gasping for breath as she expended the final amount of Mana she needed. "Fuck...you're...a stubborn little demi-goddess, aren't you..."
That was too close for comfort. She had almost lost her own soul in the process of dragging this one's into life like an anvil through the depths of hell. But at least now, she had the ultimate means for her revenge.
Or...so she thought...
As the smoke cleared from the circle, the humanoid cadaver slowly pushed itself into the sitting position. A teenage girl with long, jet black hair and vacant eyes, her skin pale as the moon as the process of decomposition had halted in a fresh state as Kye's life force was now flowing through her veins. She almost appeared as if her body had never died in the first place and had simply begun adapting to a new source of energy.
Having caught her breath, Kye stood up straight, crossed her arms, and addressed the girl in an adamant tone. "Alright, you brat, listen up, cause I'm only gonna explain this once. If you want back in your little peaceful world, there's a job yer gonna hafta do for me to get you there-"
"-beautiful." The girl murmured, her empty gaze turned up to the ceiling.
Kye blinked. "Excuse me?"
The girl lowered her dull gray gaze toward Kye and tilted her head to the side, the long strands of her hair sliding against her bare shoulders. She appeared to be listening to something. "... a soft tapping...the windows...is that rain?...it sounds beautiful..."
Kye was taken aback by this. This wasn't how a newly reincarnated soul typically behaved at all. They would be confused, angry, hysterical even. This one was completely calm, placid, if not lacking in the attention span. This is rather bizarre, Kye thought. Unless...Oh fuck all kinds of duck, no.
"Hey," Kye addressed the girl once more, narrowing her eyes and tightening her hands into fists. "You...Who are you? What's your name?"
The girl stared into space as she seemed to ponder Kye's question. "...My...name..."
No, Kye thought, her eye twitching. No...No. No. No, shit, damn, fuck, NO...
"...I don't remember." the girl finally answered in a nonchalant tone.
Kye's fists her clenched so tight now that they were now shaking, her face dark and contorted in anger as she walked over to the table where her grimiore and several other glass vials filled with unknown materials sat. " . . .are...you...fucking..." finally, she lost it and threw her hands onto the table with a loud crash. "KIDDING ME?!"
"No..." the girl answered, completely unfazed by the outburst, to which Kye could only respond to by placing her palm upon her obviously sleep depraved face. "What did I do wong...no...I didn't do anything wrong, I couldn't have...shit, was it because of that crack in the floor while I was drawing the circle? That was it wasn't it?...so much chalk...sunovabitch..."
While she continued muttering to herself, the girl continued to sit there on the floor, her expression neutral, but her eyes transfixed on Kye's tail as it weaved back and forth. If only she could touch it...
Kye glanced over her shoulder and was immediately unnerved by the girls fish-eyed stare. "The hell're YOU looking at?! Don't make me toss you back in, you fluke!"
The girl looked Chesire in the face and asked, "Who are you...and who am I? Do you know me?"
Kye rolled her eyes. She was more than pissed at her situation, but she put too much effort in dragging this idiot back from the dead to just throw them away and try another spirit. "Kye Cheshire, but as far as you should be concerned, consider me as your master and follow my every order, or I'll make you sorry, got it? As for your name..."
She paused a moment. Now at she thought about it, this girl probably didn't have the common sense t not introduce herself to everyone who asked her name, and it'd raise too many suspecting eyebrows here at the school to have an amnesiac demigod on the premises. What was she supposed to do with her now that there were so many complications now?! She would need to keep her a secret until she could make her move towards Legion. So for now...?
"...Your true name is Black Schrodinger. But that's not important right now," Kye stated adamantly. "From now on, anytime someone asks for your name, I order you as your master to address yourself as..."
Another quick pause. Black Schrodinger gave her an inquiring cock of the head. Something that sounds...fairly normal and not suspicious, Kye pondered, crossing her arms at first and then bringing a hand to her chin. "...I think...Saya...that should do just fine. Got it?"
The girl blinked, pausing a beat as she seemed to memorize it in her mind. " . . .I am Saya," she echoed. Kye scoffed, "Good...least your little brain still works."
She reached over across the desk beside her and grabbed a pile of carefully folded clothing and tossed them to the pale skinned girl, who instead of catching it, stared dimly as they landed on her lap.
"...?"
Kye rolled her eyes. "Idiot...until I decide what to do with you, you'll be my assistant. Now hurry up and get dressed, I'm not teaching an anatomy class this year."
