Samar is a very powerful sorceress who excels in most fields of magic. She has trained almost exclusively under Grand Master Eleazar for the majority of her life, and it is readily apparent in her mastery of the arcane arts.
When Samar was first assigned to be Princess Elizabeth Deramore's guardian at the age of fifteen, she immediately focused her studies to the limited field of Reality Magic. Because of the extensive work and research she has done, as well as the many discoveries she has made, she can easily be considered the greatest scholar in that field, her mastery second only to that of Grand Master Eleazar.
Generally, alterations to space time are limited to small, and typically temporary changes. However, if the fabric of space and time has been previously weakened by the unintentional intervention of Elizabeth's powers, Samar is usually able to completely restore things to the way they should be.
Samar possesses the skill to instantly cast powerful and complex spells that would normally take some time to prepare. She does this via a technique she believes she has pioneered: Compound Arcane Seals. The theory behind the technique is very simple, however the practice is not. Samar uses glyphs and seals, to create more complex glyphs and seals, which create more complex glyphs and seals, etc etc. By compounding the magic in such a way, Samar has earned recognition as one of the the swiftest battle-magi alive.
Embodiment of the Shadow Flash
As with all Melanthios, Samar possesses an inborn affinity to darkness through the Shadow Flash technique. Her embodiment of the technique allows her to convert the power of the void directly to magical energy, through shadows. This grants her an essentially infinite source of magical power. It is only limited by the the availability and size of the shadows present.
Reality Snare: Samar possess the ability to twist the shadows around her into an eldritch glyph. The glyph ensnares all who are caught within it's circumference, banishing them to a reality fragment. The fragment is created and sustained within the depths of Oblivion and within it's reality, Samar is effectively God, able to manipulate, change, and erase anything as she wills.
Samar is afraid of using this ability, due to the repercussions she believes it to entail. The longer she remains within the fragment, the more her sanity wanes. She develops a severe god complex and can at times, fail to distinguish friend from foe. Using this ability rapidly accelerates the Oblivion decay all members of the Melanthios family experience. Within the fragment, she descends entirely into madness within five minutes of arrival. This madness is not permanent, and can be recovered from after a day or two of rest in the real world. In total, Samar may only call on the fragment for a combined 24 hours before her life is lost to Oblivion.
Because of these factors, Samar will avoid activating the Reality Snare at all costs, the exception being when either the princess or herself are experiencing insurmountable mortal danger.
